Sunderland youngster Joel Asoro to consider international future as striker alerts England chiefs of his availablity

Sunderland and Sweden Under-21 striker Joel Asoro has alerted England chiefs to his availability at international level.

The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest prospects playing beneath first-team level in this country and he was shortlisted for the European Golden Boy award last season.

Asoro - who signed for the Black Cats in 2015 and made his senior debut last season - was born in Stockholm to Nigerian parents and has appeared five times for Sweden's Under-21s.

However, he has now been contacted by the Nigerian Football Federation and has revealed that he will also be eligible for England in two years' time.
