Sunderland have lost their appeal against the sending off of Sebastian Larsson in the defeat to Manchester United, meaning he will serve a three-match ban.
Larsson was dismissed just before the break for a challenge on Ander Herrera as United won 3-0 at the Stadium of Light.
Craig Pawson's decision infuriated manager David Moyes, whose side are bottom of the Premier League and 10 points adrift of safety.
Moyes said: "He gets the ball, he touches the ball. There's no contact at all, so it's not even a booking. I didn't think it was a good decision.
