A Sunderland football coach has said he is 'shocked' that one of the club's players is on trial accused of raping a woman, a court has heard.
Jack Diamond is on trial charged with raping and sexually assaulting a woman at his home in Washington, Sunderland, in May 2022.
The 23-year-old is accused of 'roughly' groping then raping the alleged victim at the house he then shared with team mate Anthony Patterson, having met her on Tinder .
On the fourth day of his trial at Newcastle Crown court, Diamond's barrister Eleanor Laws read a statement by first team coach Michael Proctor, who has known the winger since he was 15.
