Sunderland defender Paddy McNair gives a thumbs up from his hospital bed after having successful knee surgery

Paddy McNair has thanked Sunderland supporters for their 'support and messages' after having successful surgery on his knee.

The former Manchester United man was ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate liagement injury during his side's 3-0 win over Hull last month.

And on Wednesday night he took to Instagram to give fans an update on his condition, posting an image of himself giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed.
