Adnan Januzaj was not brought in to save Sunderland's skin against the likes of League One Shrewsbury Town.
Had manager David Moyes seen anything other than a squad desperately low on number and quality staring back at him when it came to team selection, he may well have rested the Manchester United loanee.
But it's just as well for Moyes that Januzaj was still on the field as this depressingly dire tie drifted towards a goalless conclusion.
It was against Shrewsbury in 2003 that the Scot suffered what he calls his worst day in charge of Everton, a 2-1 defeat in the third round of the FA Cup.
