Patrick van Aanholt has been pictured allegedly smoking a shisha pipe just over a month before he was withdrawn fromSunderland’s side over a heart concern.
The defender was taken out of the starting XI just a quarter of an hour before kick-off at Spurs on Sunday on the recommendation of a cardiologist.
Van Aanholt had undergone a heart scan five days earlier and Black Cats manager David Moyes thought the 26-year-old had been cleared to play.
However, the heart specialist contacted Sunderland’s club doctor 35 minutes before the game and Moyes made the decision to withdraw the Dutch left back.
