Micky Gray wants Sunderland to target Chris Coleman as their next manager if David Moyes walks away.
Moyes is being tipped to quit the Black Cats after they were relegated from the Premier League at the weekend.
Gray, who spent 12 years of his playing career at the club, admits it has been an 'awful' year under the Scot and would welcome a managerial change.
And, should Moyes go, he has named Wales boss Coleman as his top choice to come in.
