The day the Premier League restarted was a significant one for Duncan Watmore. Although for this footballer, it had nothing to do with his sport’s return.
Shortly before Sheffield United kicked off at Aston Villa last Wednesday, Sunderland announced they were releasing their longest-serving first-team player after seven years at the club.
But that was not the only chapter which closed for Watmore that day. Because he was also celebrating the end of his two-year master’s degree in international business, leadership and management at the University of York.

‘It’s been a lot of hard work but really satisfying,’ the studious 26-year-old tells Sportsmail.
