FA deny they advised Sunderland to withdraw Patrick van Aanholt... as authorities insist independent cardiologist made decision

The Football Association have denied the claims of Sunderland manager David Moyes that they advised the club to withdraw Patrick van Aanholt from the staring line-up just 35 minutes before kick-off at Spurs on Sunday because of the results of a heart screening.

Moyes says that he changed his side on the advice of a cardiologist from The FA Consensus Panel after concerns were raised over tests Van Aanholt had undergone last Tuesday.

However, the FA released a statement on Tuesday afternoon in which they denied any involvement.

A spokesman said: 'This cardiac screen was not conducted as part of The FA's cardiac screening programme, therefore, The FA had no involvement in the player's referral, the screening process or the communication of the results with the club.
