EXCLUSIVE: EFL chiefs say lower league clubs MUST test weekly to stem the spread of Covid after a spate of positive tests and postponements, or a 'circuit break' will be inevitable

Weekly testing is needed to stem the spread of Covid within EFL clubs and prevent a shutdown in the Championship and lower leagues, chairmen have told Sportsmail.

Nine games in Leagues One and Two were called off due to coronavirus outbreaks on Tuesday and a number of clubs have been severely affected in recent weeks, including, Rotherham, Sunderland, Rochdale, Portsmouth, Ipswich, Hull City, Doncaster, Peterborough and Bristol Rovers.

Clubs are now braced for a flurry of positive tests when players and staff undergo the latest round of testing in the EFL next week.
