CONFIRMED: David Moyes resigns as manager of Sunderland following relegation from Premier League

David Moyes has resigned as manager of Sunderland following their relegation from the Premier League.

Appointed last summer, Moyes failed to keep the Black Cats in the top flight, and will not remain in charge for the 2017/18 Championship campaign.

Chairman Ellis Short said on the decision: “I pursued the services of David Moyes for a considerable period prior to his appointment last summer, which makes the announcement of his departure difficult for everyone concerned.

“Having worked tirelessly throughout the campaign to avoid relegation from the Premier League, David has chosen to leave the club without compensation, which is testament to his character.
