Bournemouth are closing in on a swoop for Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe.
Cherries chiefs are growing increasingly confident of signing the veteran striker, who has been a long term target for manager Eddie Howe, this summer.
Defoe will be available on a free transfer following Sunderland’s relegation into the Championship.
And Bournemouth are willing to use the fact they don’t have to pay a transfer fee for the 34-year-old to offer Defoe a hefty wage package in a bud to lure him south.
