UTEP fired head coach Dana Dimel on Sunday after six seasons at the helm. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.
Dimel compiled a 20-49 record in his six years in El Paso, finishing with one winning season and one bowl appearance over that timeframe. Dimel arrived as an assistant from Kansas State with previous head coaching stops of Wyoming (1997-99) and Houston (2000-02).
At UTEP, he inherited an 0-12 program and produced 1-11 records in each of his first two seasons coaching the Miners. In 2020, tangible improvement was felt as UTEP finished the abbreviated pandemic season 3-5, although two of the three wins were over FCS programs.
