Three athletes from Sun Belt Conference begin play at 2016 Olympic Games
NEW ORLEANS – Three student-athletes from Sun Belt Conference member institutions will officially began their quests for Olympic gold tonight at the opening ceremonies from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Two former Texas State student-athletes and one former Coastal Carolina student-athlete will represent their countries during the games. Anicka Newell, a former Sun Belt pole vault champion and NCAA preliminary qualifier, and Logan Cunningham of Texas State will compete in their first Olympic games in the pole vault event. Former Coastal Carolina stand out Amber Campbell will compete in her third consecutive Olympic games in the hammer throw.
