NEW ORLEANS - The University of South Alabama women's basketball team defeated the two-seeded UT Arlington Lady Mavericks, 57-50, in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Women's Basketball Championship, presented by First Bank and Trust, on Friday afternoon at the Lakefront Arena to advance to the program's first title game since 1989.
South Alabama led for the majority of the ballgame but UTA held it close and tied it up with just over two minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Savannah Jones hit a three-pointer from the corner with 59 seconds left to play that put the Jaguars up by six and UTA was forced to begin fouling.
