No. 9 Coastal Carolina Defeats Richmond, 8-5, in Season Opener
CONWAY - Ninth-ranked Coastal Carolina began its national championship defense with an 8-5 win versus Richmond in the teams' 2017 season opener Friday evening at Springs Brooks Stadium before a crowd of 3,280, a record for a Chanticleer regular-season, on-campus contest. (Overall, it is the eighth-largest crowd for a CCU home baseball contest.)
Prior to the game, members of the 2016 team unveiled the national championship trophy display and Coastal honored 2016 National Coach of the Year Gary Gilmore, who also threw out the first pitch.
