After a sluggish two quarters, Appalachian State came back to win their first ever bowl game in their first appearance in school history, defeating Ohio 31-29 after Zach Matics' 23-yard field goal went through the uprights with no time remaining.
The Mountaineers scored the game's first points as Taylor Lamb scored from 21-yards out to give App State a 7-0 lead. After Matics missed two field goals, Ohio finally took advantage of the Mountaineers miscues by scoring 17 unanswered points in a span of 1:11 to close the first half.
After an Ohio field goal, Qunetin Polling gave the Bobcats their first touchdown with a pick-six to make the score 10-3.
