Appalachian State made their home debut Saturday afternoon and blasted FCS Gardner-Webb 72-7. The Mountaineers took a 28-7 lead after one quarter of play and rode it the rest of the way en route to the third most points in school history.
App State scored on the third play of the game with a 64 yard touchdown strike from Zach Thomas to Dominique Heath. After App State blocked a put for a TD Gardner-Webb drove downfield to cut the deficit to 14-7 but that would be the most the dogs would run all day as Appalachian put the pedal to the floor and didn’t look back.
