Stoke City defender Erik Pieters has been fined £70,000 by his club after it emerged he was at a nightclub on the eve of his side's 2-1 Premier League defeat to Everton.
Pieters was due to start at the back for the Potters against Sam Allardyce’s side, but was dropped after the club learned he was in a nightclub the evening before.
Paul Lambert was reportedly upset the 29-year-old chose to spend the evening before a game in a Cheshire hotspot, just 24 hours before a crucial game for his side.
Stoke lost the game 2-1, to leave them second bottom of the Premier League table.
