Stoke City chairman Peter Coates believes closing the summer transfer window before the start of the season is better for world football.

Premier League clubs voted on Thursday to shut the window before the start of the 2018-19 season meaning no players could be registered before 5pm on the Thursday before the opening match.

The vote, which was not unanimous, came after weeks of debate and the final decision has been praised by the Stoke Chairman.
