Big Game is the longest-standing rivalry in the Bay Area, but health concerns from the smoke-filled air caused by the Camp Fire could prompt officials to cancel the 121st Big Game. Yesterday, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Berkeley reached 246; anything above 200 is considered “very unhealthy.”
Both Stanford and Cal canceled classes today out of health concerns for students. Cal also canceled its men’s basketball game last night.
Furthermore, the NCAA recommends serious consideration of canceling outdoor athletic events once the AQI reaches 200.
As of now, the game is still on, with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 PM tomorrow.
