Stanford hopes to extend its women’s volleyball domination over Cal to seven straight matches when the No. 8 Cardinal (6-2) take on the Bears (6-5) in the Pac-12 opener for both teams Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. Cal hasn’t beat Stanford since 2011.
Stanford led all Pac-12 teams with three selections to the Preseason All-Pac-12 Team: setter Madi Bugg, outside hitter Jordan Burgess and 6-8 middle blocker Merete Lutz. Bugg led the nation with 12.10 assists per set last season. Senior outside hitter Brittany Howard, a three-year starter and all-conference selection, hopes to become the 10th Cardinal player to reach the 1,000 career kill and dig marks.
