The Stanford Cardinal made a splash on the first day of the early signing period Wednesday by getting a commitment from running back E.J. Smith, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith and the No. 96 recruit in the ESPN 300.
E.J. Smith, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound back from Jesuit College Prep in Dallas, Texas, chose the Cardinal over Florida, Georgia, Ohio State and Texas A&M.
"They just love my versatility and the way they use their running backs is something I focused on, and also the education played a major part in it, too," Smith said.
