In what is no doubt a shock to those who follow women's soccer, Stanford fell 1-0 in double overtime to Santa Clara in the second round of the NCAAs, after what was nothing less than a stellar season where they won 18 of 21 games. But that provides little consolation for a premature ending to what many expected would be a championship season for a more than dominant Cardinal team.
While suffering elimination from the tournament at such an early stage is no doubt painful and far short of the team's goals for the season, it is important to remember that this program has put together a decade of stunning success.
