The Maxwell Award is the nation’s second most prestigious award, just behind the Heisman Trophy, and you guessed it, Stanford Cardinal QB Davis Mills was named to the preseason watch list for the award.
Handed out by the Maxwell Football Club, and voted on by a panel of sportscasters, sportswriters and the National Collegiate Athletic Association head coaches, it’s given to the player voted to be the best all-around in the country. It’s annually been handed out since 1937 and most recently was given to Joe Burrow after the 2019 season.
Former Stanford quarterbacks Jim Plunkett and Andrew Luck are the school’s previous winners of the awards, both in the 1970 and 2011 seasons, respectively.
