Cal-to-Stanford transfer Brennan Scarlett ready for his unusual matchup

Throughout the entirety of his time at California, defensive lineman Brennan Scarlett was never allowed to lay a hand on Jared Goff. Quarterbacks -- especially the Golden Bears' prized signal-caller -- were off limits to contact during practice.

But Scarlett now wears a Stanford uniform, so the rules will be different for the graduate transfer when he plays in the 118th Big Game against Cal: Goff is now a fair target.

"I never got to get to Jared before," Scarlett smiled. "So that's the plan."

It'll be a highly unusual dynamic in more than one way on Saturday night: Scarlett is Stanford's first-ever graduate transfer, and he's one of the only players to ever play for both the Cardinal and the Bears, bitter rivals on opposite sides of San Francisco Bay.
