ATLANTA • As pinch hitters on Friday night, the Cardinals’ young trio of Jeremy Hazelbaker, Aledmys Diaz and Greg Garcia set a record by all hitting pinch home runs, the first time that had been done in major league history.
Besides accomplishing that, the two rookies (Hazelbaker and Diaz) and a player barely over the rookie limit in Garcia, helped the Cardinals to their first win of the season. On Sunday, the three weren’t involved in any record-setting but they were large contributors to the Cardinals’ third victory of the season, a 12-7 win over the Atlanta Braves, marking the first time in the 20-season history of Turner Field that they had swept a three-game series.
