NEW YORK • On a road to nowhere, the Cardinals ongoing search for something, anything to give them direction this season continues only to get them lost.
The New York Yankees won their seventh consecutive game and completed a three-game sweep of the Cardinals with 9-3 thumping victory Sunday night at Yankee Stadium. The loss, which was a two-run game until the eighth inning, sent the Cardinals back to Busch Stadium after a 1-5 road trip, their first of the season. A team that could rely on power last year and pitching the year before that, the Cardinals have become a team unable to count on much at all.
