Wong's knee injury opens roster spot for rookie starter Poncedeleon

CINCINNATI • The decision facing the Cardinals about their bullpen and the makeup of the roster that will need to change in the coming days got a reprieve Monday due to an ailing knee.

Kolten Wong was placed on the 10-day disabled list with inflammation in his right knee. His soreness opened a spot on the roster that the Cardinals immediately used for rookie starter Daniel Poncedeleon.

Poncedeleon is the first of three rookies the Cardinals will start in this series against the Reds. He'll be followed by Gomber and Jack Flaherty. It is the first time since the final series of the 1997 season that the Cardinals have had three rookies start in the same series, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
