Wong's bases-learing triple ties score

MILWAUKEE • No sooner than Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez had allowed a three-run, moonshot homer by Milwaukee’s Travis Shaw in the first inning Thursday night than he had all three runs back in the second.

Succeeding a single by Yadier Molina, a double by Jedd Gyorko and a walk to Randal Grichuk, Kolten Wong hitting .171, ripped a triple into the right-field corner against Zach Davies and all three runners scored. But Wong was left at third as Martinez grounded out and both Dexter Fowler and Aledmys Diaz struck out.

BREWERS JUMP MARTINEZ FOR THREE IN FIRST

Both starting pitchers Thursday night had had their way with the opponent last year.
