SEATTLE • During the series this past week in Chicago, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny and first base coach Chris Maloney discussed how they needed to get Kolten Wong more work in left field. The second baseman needed to be familiar with the corner outfield spot so, late in games, he could either go into play left or slide over from center to improve the defense.
Work has become a start just a few days later.
Matt Adams remains out of the lineup with the lower back tightness that scratched him from Friday's lineup. With Adams out at first, Brandon Moss can start there and that frees up a spot in the outfield for Wong.
