Wong chasing Brewers' Broxton for most spring steals

JUPITER, Fla. • Kolten Wong had Keon Broxton caught.

The Cardinals' second baseman broke from first base in the sixth inning of Saturday afternoon's road game against the Braves. He beat catcher Tyler Flowers' throw. By a bunch.

"He was safe," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said.

Until he wasn't.

Wong's speed and momentum carried him to the bag, then beyond it.

Second baseman Christian Colon dropped down the tag.

"He had ball bearings in his shorts or something," Matheny joked.

"It was crazy," added Wong. "I slid probably five feet before the base, and I just kept going.
