PITTSBURGH • With one month to go in the regular season, a most curious statistic continues for Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright and it has nothing to do with his performance from the mound.
In the second inning, Wainwright jolted the Cardinals to their first run with a deep fly ball that clattered off the center-field fence.
It was his ninth hit of the season.
All nine hits have gone for extra bases.
Wainwright has long predicted that he would win a Silver Slugger award, and this year he's going to make one of his best claims to the award.
