JUPITER, Fla. -- Injuries and a suspension have already sidelined three Cardinals pitchers in camp -- which is why, on Thursday, the club added another.
Corey Baker, 27, has moved into the Major League clubhouse and will take uniform No. 75. That jersey was slated to go to Corey Littrell before MLB announced that Littrell had been suspended 50 games for submitting a positive drug test.
Baker split last season between the Cards' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. He posted a 5.68 ERA, 1.585 WHIP and struck out 110 over 130 innings.
Baker will pitch for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic, so he's already further along in his throwing program than most pitchers.
