CHICAGO — Before he created a gust of his own that carried the Cardinals to a win, Paul Goldschmidt assured Dakota Hudson that it was going to be one of those windy, wind-aided games at Wrigley Field that can cause havoc for a pitcher.
The good news: The Cardinals got to hit with the tailwind, too.
“We’re going to put up some runs,” Hudson recalled the first baseman saying after a second homer by the Cubs had given them the momentary lead. “So, do what you can.”
Goldschmidt made good on his promise with a three-run homer out of the ballpark and Hudson made due by chipping in five innings for the Cardinals’ 7-3 victory Sunday night against the Cubs.
