Willson Contreras feels 'a big relief' after knee injury's diagnosis: Cardinals Extra

An initial wave of fear and concern accompanied the leg numbness Cardinals catcher Willson Contreras experienced after a 103-mph sinking fastball hit his knee in the eighth inning of his first game with the club on Thursday afternoon at Busch Stadium.

By the end of Friday, Contreras and the Cardinals received news that the X-rays and the MRI showed no damage. Contreras even hit and ran in a workout Friday, one day after he’d been forced to hobble off the field with the assistance of the training staff.

“It was a big relief for me,” Contreras said of the results of the imaging.
