ATLANTA • Magneuris Sierra, still the only teen ever to win the Cardinals' organization player of the year, left Jupiter, Fla., at 3 a.m. local time for one of the biggest leaps in baseball this season.
Less than 24 hours after he started in center for the High-A Palm Beach affiliate, Sierra will start in center for the major-league Cardinals.
Sierra, 21, got the promotion, officially, Sunday morning when the Cardinals placed Jose Martinez on the 10-day disabled list with a groin injury. Martinez is headed back to St. Louis on Sunday to have an exam that will determine the severity of the injury.
