On a night of intrigue in baseball thanks to a hurricane pelting the eastern seaboard and a three-way race for the A.L. Wild Card, the Cardinals Braves opener was anything but intriguing.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny pulled starter Jaime Garcia after four shaky innings in which the lefty gave up six hits, two walks and two earned runs, both on a home run by Braves second baseman Daniel Castro. In the eighth, Castro doubled in Freddie Freeman in the eighth for his third RBI on the night. Nick Markakis then drove in Castro with an RBI single.
