The Cardinals, playing without suspended catcher Yadier Molina, Dexter Fowler and Paul DeJong from their starting lineup, mustered seven hits against four Milwaukee pitchers in a 3-2 defeat at Busch Stadium. Three of the hits were by the replacements for those players — Francisco Pena, Bader and Greg Garcia.
After taking grounders before the game and going through other parts of a workout, Gyorko headed to Jupiter, Fla., the Cardinals’ spring training site, to get some game at-bats in minor-league conditions as he heals from a strained right hamstring. Gyorko is eligible to come off the disabled list this weekend but may not to do so until the first part of next week.
