PHOENIX • The breakthrough Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright has been searching for on the mound found him Wednesday and earned him the chance to win the game, at the plate.
Allowed to hit for himself in the sixth inning, in part because manager Mike Matheny wanted Wainwright to build on his improving pitches, the Cardinals righthander delivered a bases-loaded triple to take the lead for good. Wainwright’s second career triple coupled with Aledmys Diaz’s home run and pivotal walk and lifted the Cardinals to an 11-4 victory against Arizona at Chase Field. The win was Wainwright's first in more than a year.
