WASHINGTON • Whether it was during a closed-door team meeting earlier this month in Anaheim, Calif., to discuss the team’s meandering start or just chatting with each other during their bullpen sessions, the Cardinals starting pitchers had to be “honest,” as Adam Wainwright said, about what was missing.
It was them.
“We were fair in the evaluation, and we know that we had to be a lot better,” Wainwright said. “No doubt we know that. Our bullpen is great. Our hitters are great. What are we missing right now? Starting pitching going out there and getting on a roll.
