Pitcher Adam Wainwright, who by far has the highest slugging average on the Cardinals’ club at .917, doubled to left with two out in the second inning Saturday, giving him a triple, double, home run and double in his last four at-bats. But, unlike most of those other at-bats, Wainwright did not score and the game with Pittsburgh at sunny Busch Stadium remained tied at 2-2 entering the third.
Crew chief Dana DeMuth, who was working at home plate, had to leave the game after the second inning, with second-base umpire Ed Hickox taking over behind the plate and the crew then operating with just three umpires.
