JUPITER, Fla. • To veteran righthander Adam Wainwright, Thursday’s Cardinals exhibition game here against the Minnesota Twins is “the biggest game of my career. No doubt.”
He would say that in April, July or October, of course, but when one is fighting to hang onto his spot in the rotation, the stakes might be a bit higher.
Wainwright somehow compiled a 12-5 record last year despite not being really healthy at any point of the season. Some minor elbow surgery later, he is hoping to display that he won’t have to dip into the 70s or 60s to try to trick hitters, but more importantly, that his arm is sound.
