MIAMI • While most pitchers are looking for an uptick in their velocities, the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright was trying to dial it down Tuesday night. Way down.
In the first two innings, Wainwright dusted off his slow curveball, with offerings as low as 66 miles an hour. For two innings anyway, it seemed to work as the Cardinals turned their eighth infield double play in the last three games to wrap up the second inning still at -0 deadlock with the Miami Marlins.
The Marlins went a man down _ and their manager, Don Mattingly, was tossed in the first inning for the second consecutive night.
