PHILADELPHIA • Whatever happened in the innings that followed Michael Wacha’s wince in the fourth Wednesday wouldn’t matter as much because games end and trips move on, but Wacha’s injury and its repercussions could linger for the Cardinals.
One batter after allowing a home run, Wacha abruptly left Wednesday’s start because of a muscle strain along the left side of his torso. The righthander, one of two Cardinals’ starters deserving of All-Star consideration this summer, will have a scan taken of his oblique muscle Thursday in Milwaukee to determine the severity of the tear. Wacha could be out at least a month, leaving the Cardinals’ and their once-robust rotation depth tested.
