JUPITER, Fla. •_ St. Louisan Luke Voit, making a late bid to crack the opening-day roster, tripled home two runs and his pinch-runner scored a third in a three-run sixth inning as the Cardinals overcame the New York Mets, temporarily, on Tuesday.
The Mets caught up in the seventh and then tattooed Bud Norris for four runs in the eighth, including a rooftop home run by Travis d’Arnaud, who found the Miami Marlins’ administration building behind the left-field wall. New York then held on for an 8-7 victory.
The eight-run allotment matched the total the Cardinals had allowed in their previous six games.
