There’s a documentary series on Netflix that Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright has been watching recently, drawn in by how “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” speeds through a racing championship season through the different teams and personalities competing. One of the teams bears the venerable brand of an automotive company founded in 1926, the same year the Cardinals earned their first glint of a championship rep, and Wainwright related how Mercedes’ leader avoided the noise.
At his locker at Wrigley Field this past week, Wainwright volunteered his fondness for the show and described the ways the Mercedes team created a muffler against “the mind games of all the other teams” by focusing on fundamentals, by remaining true to time-tested tenets.
