MILWAUKEE • Matt Carpenter, Aledmys Diaz and Matt Holliday created a fifth-inning run and two more in the seventh for the Cardinals, much the way they had done almost every time they have come to bat in this series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The seventh-inning flurry extended the Cardinals' lead to 5-2.
After pinch hitter Greg Garcia, batting for starter Mike Leake, drew a walk, Carpenter tripled off the glove of center fielder Ramon Flores for his seventh hit in two days, scoring Garcia.
Diaz, who already had had four infield hits in two days, reached on a walk.
