1926 • DeWitt, who works his way up with the Cardinals in 1917, is promoted to treasurer, and he continues to be an assistant and confidant of baseball visionary Branch Rickey.
1936 • DeWitt joins the Browns as vice president and general manager.
August 19, 1951 • Browns batboy Bill DeWitt Jr. lends his jersey to Eddie Gaedel, the games’s smallest pinch-hitter, who at 3-foot-7 was sent to the plate to take a walk as a stunt from owner Bill Veeck.
