ATLANTA — Some 30 different players have manned third base for the Atlanta Braves since Hall of Famer Chipper Jones retired after the 2012 season. The latest occupant is by far the best of the bunch.
Josh Donaldson, signed last off-season to a one-year, $23 million free-agent contract after spending all of his career in the American League, hit 37 homers, drove in 94 runs and fielded in Gold Glove fashion for the Braves this season. But he also was said to be a “one-of-a-kind guy” in the clubhouse.
One Braves employee told the story Wednesday of the brash Donaldson recently informing a pitcher, “Hey, buddy, you’re about two cheeseburgers away from being a truck driver.
